Time to Inspect Your Roof for the Coming Seasons

We’re entering August, which means that we only have a little bit of summer left. This means cooler temperatures, leaves changing color, football, and kids going back to school. It also means that now is the perfect time to make sure that your roof is ready for winter and all the cold and snow that comes with it. Here are some things to look for to make sure your roof is ready.

Make Sure Your Roof is Clear of Moss, Mold, Algae, and Other Natural Contaminants

The accumulation of water and moisture on your roof can lead to algae, moss, and/or mold growing on your shingles. Left untreated, these nuisances can damage your shingles, clog your gutters, and even start eroding the roof deck underneath. This can lead to minor leaks that can become serious problems that require expensive repairs. If you see evidence of these growths, you should get them properly cleaned to prevent any serious damage.

Look for Leaks in Your Attic

The attic is the first place where leaks will be noticeable. Look for any watermarks in the ceiling or discoloration in the rafters. If you notice a musty smell, you need to find the source of the moisture getting into your attic and address it as soon as possible. You should also make sure that your attic is properly ventilated to prevent any curling or cracking of your shingles.
